Early and Effective Intervention (EEI)

The Early and Effective Intervention (EEI) process for Glasgow was initiated in December 2010

Led by the Glasgow Youth Justice Group based on the Scottish Goverment strategy for preventing and reducing offending by young people.

The aim of the strategy is to ensure that children and young people, aged between 8-15 years, who have engaged in offending and antisocial behaviour receive the appropriate intervention in order to divert them away from further offending. Through the EEI process, children and young people who have committed offences (with the exception of those who have committed offences of a serious nature) will be diverted from referral to the Scottish Children’s Reporter’s Administration (SCRA) to the EEI process. The initiative should support the child or young person to engage with universal services such as education, youth work and health care and in this context EEI:

  • relates directly to the needs and behaviour of the child or young person;
  • takes account of the impact on others;
  • is appropriate, proportionate, timely and fair.
