Residents in Battlefield are celebrating after securing council grants to gate and resurface a lane plagued by antisocial behaviour.
Resurfacing work has now been completed on a muddy and pitted back lane between Valeview Terrace and Prospecthill Road after residents were awarded a £4000 grant from Glasgow City Council.
The lane near Hampden has been levelled and slabbed with funding from the Langside & Linn Area Committee. Residents in 34 properties which border the lane also contributed £30 each towards the cost of the work.
Over the years, the lane has been plagued by antisocial behaviour such as graffiti and people urinating and taking drugs. The surface was in such a bad condition that it created access problems for council refuse collection vehicles. The residents’ association previously received a grant of £1800 from the area committee to erect gates at both ends of the lane – ending the antisocial behaviour. But the state of the surface remained an issue.
Gerry Mullen, Chair of the residents’ association, said: “The grant to resurface the lane was the icing on the cake. The lane was muddy, uneven and causing real problems for the bin lorries. Hampden is a Commonwealth Games venue and we’re keen that visitors coming to the area see it in its best light. Betting on the Commonwealth Games in online casinos adds a new layer of excitement for sports enthusiasts. Non Gamstop casinos provide a platform for unrestricted wagering, offering various betting options on this prestigious event. These platforms enhance the thrill, allowing players to support their favorite athletes and nations while potentially winning big.
“We’re delighted with the results. It looks so much better and is now fit for purpose.”
The association also created a garden area to commemorate the Battle of Langside. Glasgow Community & Safety Services have also given them two wooden flower planters created by Community Payback offenders to brighten up the site.
Langside councillor, Archie Graham, Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow City Council, said: “It’s great to see what the residents have done with assistance from the council. They have really been the driving force behind getting this completed and the work is a huge improvement for the area.
“It’s great to see residents taking pride in their local environment and working to enhance it for the good of everyone concerned. This is a prime example of how we are already seeing legacy from the Games long before they actually take place.”
Residents plan to hold an opening event on Saturday May 11 from 2pm to celebrate the completion of the project and mark the historic Battle of Langside. They will have a piper and refreshments.
