Glasgow Community and Safety Services – Services

ASSIST

Who we are

We are the advocacy and support service for victims of domestic abuse linked to the specialist Domestic Abuse Court at Glasgow Sheriff Court and has been operating since October 2004.

Glasgow’s Domestic Abuse Court began as a pilot in October 2004 in the south side of Glasgow and is now being expanded to cover all areas that are covered by Glasgow Sheriff Court.

We work in partnership with Strathclyde Police, Glasgow Sheriff Court, Crown Office and Procurator’s Fiscal Service, Women’s Aid, Victim Information and Advice, Victim Support Scotland, Children 1st and many other agencies.

ASSIST is funded by the Scottish Government and Glasgow Community and Safety Services.

How we can help

We aim to ensure that victims of domestic abuse, including children, are safe, informed and supported throughout the court process and beyond. Each client is offered a Risk Assessment along with safety planning advice. A MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference) is held once a month to co-ordinate agency support for those clients considered to be at very high risk of further harm.

Our co-ordination role ensures that partner agencies working with victims of domestic abuse can provide the most effective and appropriate service, which places the victim at the centre of the process.

This service has provided support to over 3000 adults and 3000 children and helped the court to secure a conviction rate of more than 80%.
