The Prison ThroughCare programme is a pilot for GCSS based on previous experience and evidence. This evidence from offenders working with GCSS who have experienced custody, indicates that whilst incarcerated, there is an opportunity to become substance-free and to engage in group work sessions, which provide an opportunity for reflection and encouragement towards positive behavioural change.
The PTC programme, in partnership with Barlinnie Prison, gives GCSS the opportunity to address issues by engaging with an identified group of incarcerated young offenders before release with continued engagement when they are released from prison.
The advantages of this are that relationships are formed over a period of time when clients are substance-free and more receptive to lifestyle changes, and there are consequently improved prospects of continued engagement on release from prison.
